SAMANTHA & LUKE | MATERNITY SESSION IN HAMILTON
This session was two halves, and I loved both of them for different reasons.
We started outdoors in a field full of daisies. The girls were in their element, running through the flowers, picking bunches, doing their own thing while I worked around them. Samantha and Luke were relaxed and easy to photograph together, and the light was generous, bright sun, blue sky, the kind of afternoon you hope for.
The second half was at their home. We moved to the bedroom and the living room, using window light and the spaces they actually live in. There’s something about photographing a family in their own house that you can’t replicate anywhere else, the worn leather chair by the window, the art on the walls, the dogs on the bed. It all belongs to them and it makes the photos feel like theirs.
The girls were brilliant. They didn’t need to be directed, they just needed room to be themselves, and that’s when the best moments happen. Samantha is expecting their third, and there’s a calmness in these photos that I think captures exactly where their family is right now, on the edge of something new.
I’m heading back soon to photograph the baby, and I’m looking forward to seeing how their family has grown since this session.
If you’re expecting and thinking about maternity photos, I’d love to hear from you, get in touch here.
