MELISSA + MIKE | MATERNITY SESSION AT TAITUA ARBORETUM HAMILTON

Melissa is one of my long-standing clients. I’ve photographed her a bunch of times over the years, so when she told me she was pregnant, a maternity session was a given.

We shot at Taitua Arboretum right at sunset. It’s one of those spots in Hamilton that most people don’t think of for photos, but the light through the trees at golden hour is hard to beat.

This was Mike’s first time in front of a camera. He was a bit nervous at the start, which is completely normal, and by about five minutes in, he’d forgotten about it entirely. Melissa, on the other hand, turned up with a cowboy hat and a plan. That’s just Melissa.

We kept it simple, walking the paths together, sitting on the fallen logs, just being with each other. The kind of session where you don’t really notice the camera after a while, which is always when the best photos happen.
