TINA, POUYA, AND NEIL’S MATERNITY SESSION IN A DAISY FIELD
Sometimes the best plan is a simple one.
Tina got maternity photos that felt natural and calm, in a beautiful outdoor spot. So we chose a flowery field, showed up with a couple of outfit options, and let the session unfold without forcing anything.
This was not about complicated poses or a big “concept”. It was about capturing this season of their family in a way that felt real.
The vibe
A warm day, soft colour, and a field full of white flowers. The kind of place that instantly does half the work for you.
The goal was straightforward:
- a few strong maternity portraits of Tina
- a handful of family photos together
- some playful moments with Neil being Neil
Shooting with a child under TWO
Neil is under two, which means the shoot is always led by his mood and attention span. That is normal.
Instead of trying to “make him cooperate”, we stayed flexible:
- short bursts of photos, then resets
- movement instead of stillness
- attention on connection, not perfection
The best frames always come from those in between moments anyway. A laugh, a look, a cuddle, a tiny hand reaching out.
Outfit changes without the fuss
Tina brought a couple of outfits, which is the sweet spot for an outdoor maternity shoot.
One look for the brighter, airy photos in the flowers, and another for a slightly different feel so the gallery has variety without turning the session into constant changing.
If you bring three or four outfits outdoors, you spend your shoot time changing. Two outfits keeps it simple and keeps the momentum.
The photos we aimed for
We built the session around a few “anchor” images, then let the rest be documentary style.
The anchors:
- Tina and Pouya together with the bump
- Tina alone in the flowers
- the three of them as a family
- Neil being lifted, held, and played with
Then we filled in the story with the candid bits.
A quick note for other mums
If you are doing maternity photos with a little one, the secret is not better posing.
It is lower expectations and better timing.
We keep it moving, we keep it light, and we accept that kids do not “perform”. They just exist. That is what makes the photos feel honest.
If you are reading this and wondering what an outdoor maternity session looks like with a young child, this is it. Real, relaxed, and led by your family’s energy.
If you would like something similar, tell me:
- studio or outdoors
- how many people are coming
- how old your kids are
- and whether you want light and airy, neutral, or moodier
That is enough for me to plan the rest.
