NICO’S NEWBORN SESSION | AT HOME IN HAMILTON
I’ve been photographing Tina and Pouya’s family for a while now, including maternity sessions, Neil’s birthday, and their anniversary. So when Nico arrived, a newborn session at home felt like the natural next step.
We shot everything on the couch and the bed using the window light. No studio, no fancy props. Just their home, their family, and a very new little person.
Nico set the pace. When he needed feeding, we paused. When he was settled and sleepy, we moved through the detail shots and the quiet close-ups. When he was alert, we got some beautiful wide-eyed frames instead. There’s no fighting a newborn’s schedule, you just work with it.
Neil was brilliant. He’s two, so instructions aren’t really his thing, but he leaned in to kiss his little brother when he felt like it, not when I asked him to. That’s usually when the best sibling photos happen.
This is one of those sessions that reminds me why I love shooting newborns at home. Everything is real, the mess, the tiredness, the quiet moments between feeds. It doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to be yours.
